Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Last night I ventured to the “otherside” that’s better know as Dublin! The expedition that was a concert at the O2 arena held by the chillis. Was it good? Obviously, I love the music, I love their style, hair and Anthony’s moustache. Without sounding to much like a groupie they performed a great set list and got Dublin jumping. Chad on the drums was tearing through drumsticks like dirty boxers, josh ye new guitarist didn’t look a bit outa place (apart form an obvious age gap!), flea couldn’t help but steal some of the show and kiedis vocals were rediculoussss considering he had a sinus problem! “Can’t stop” for me stole the show and anyone who’s lucky enough to be watching them at the ulster hall I’m envious! G

Veitnam, Deux.

Sleeper bus to Hoi Ann. Hoi Ann… is situated just over half way up Vietnam. To get there we got on board a sleeper bus. What is a sleeper bus? Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin, instead of seats you have bunk beds, instead of a floor you have Vietnamese people crushed together and instead of a normal driver you have a mental person. These buses head of every night up and down Vietnam, they are pretty comfortable. If you close your eyes its also pretty relaxing. but as soon as your eyes open and realise the bus driver is overtaking trucks on blind corners above a 50ft cliff drop into the South China Sea, its not so relaxing.Top Gear…about the only thing I know about Hoi Ann and its suits, this is the Milan of Asia. Suit shops and beaches an interesting yet exciting combination. What I didn’t expect was how European the town was, the architecture and cobbled streets could have been halfway up the French Alps. Vietnam.

Good morning Vietnam. Cambodia behind us we get through border patrol and step foot into the socialist republic of Vietnam, first glimpse of the yellow star and red background that makes of the flag of Vietnam. HO CHI MINH.Unsure of what to expect in Vietnam, other than the myths and tales of crazy drivers and swarms of scooters we hop back onto the bus and set of towards ho chi minh city. To be honest the only other glimpse of Vietnam I have seen is that on top gear. The war is something else that springs to mind when I think of this country, along with the robin Williams film of course, hopefully by the time we leave I will learn something a little more. 13th, July. We arrive in Ho Chi Minh right at the bottom of Vietnam. Cambodia.

Dropped off at the boarder, we await are Cambodian friend to show us into his country. After walking through different offices, and signing papers, getting are picture taking we eventually step foot into the Kingdom of Cambodia. After getting onto are new bus we set of for Siam Reap. As soon as we set off into Cambodia there is a vast difference in poverty, even are bus had suffered, the AC was as good as mark blowing gently on me and the pole directly in front of us wasn’t very strategically placed. Looking out over the fields and villages we passed even a glimpse of normal life to these people was nothing to what we are used to. Kids with no clothes, adults lying by the roads, women carrying bricks it was all quite a surprise but the one thing that was obvious was that they didn’t seem to let its affect their happiness, it was life and the children were still running around having fun and the adults chatting to each other. End of Koh Chan. 2 weeks gone, looking back it past so quick. As we lay out on the mats at siam hut, basking in the evening sun. A restaurant that serves a killer garlic chicken dish with fried rice. The decking built out over the sea, looking out over lonely beech on koh Chang island. The sun begins to set and as I start to remember the last two weeks and thetimes we have, the memories we made, I start to find out how attached I have got to this island and the people we have meet, locals and travelers. To update you from my last blog I will try and fill you in on what a general day is like…it goes a little something like this, sleep in, beech, burn, ting tongs,nap, watch footie then head to OM bar play pool and chat. 26th June 2010. 4 days ago we arrived on Koh Chang, and for the past 4 days we have done nothing. Just as we hoped, the way are day usually goes is as follows…Wake up about 11/12, lie there, ask each other what we want to do, and after a few early morning grunts we quickly throw on a few day old tshirt and short combo and head to the beach…we then catch a few waves and lie in the sun. get burnt. then head back to the hut, we nap for a while, then get up head fordinner, then watch the footie and depending if the 1:30am game is worth staying up for we then retreat back to our domain and repeat the same routine. The above is just a quick guideline of what we tend to do. The beach here is unreal and the island itself is like the film “castaway” only with a few extrapeople and no Wilson. It seems almost timeless, as I lay on the sand and let the waves wash away the grains of sand beneath my fingers I can understandthe beauty of being away from society. 22nd June 2010.6:00 my alarm rings on my phone, a ridiculous time to wake considering we have been up every morning after 11. Check out, into taxi, still half asleep. Cloud cast over so no sun beams down like usual, as we sit in traffic in Bangkok the rain starts to beat down and as I look out to the mopeds ready to speed at the next green light I start to think about time. Time, 5 hours is how long it should take to get to Koh Chang in the bus, 5 hours a shift in tesco or a flight to Egypt from Heathrow, or even 2 football matches in the world cup. I don’t really no why it came into my head but as I watched the beads of rain slide down the window I can only think time moves so fast, when we really think about it. 5 hours later we still sit uncomfortably on a mini van, the concrete jungle we were used to has changed dramatically to green hills and wooden shacks. //:DISCLAIMER:// It has been brought to my attention that my grammar is not the greatest, this however is not my problem as my English is not that good. So if you don’t like it, sorry! Maybe it will improve over the year! // 21st, last day in Bangkok so we decide we should sleep in. Also because we stayed up to watch Brazil match there was no chance us getting up. Mark arrived! 2 became 3, we meet him as he gets of the bus. Whilst waiting, I had a chance to watch time pass by, its opportunity’s like this that you can really get a sense of how the city works. Traffic, crowds and hundreds of Thai people moving around to set up there stalls, the city ticks over like clockwork in a way that works for the people, it all fits together smoothly and as we head to the hotel to pack I will miss what interesting city and will surely come back to possibly sample a cockroach or too! We head off to Koh Chang early morning, not sure how quick the updates will come, so Good night and God bless.
