The jolly frog was my humble abode, £2 a night did’t seem fair for such a perfect location. Sitting on a floating deck, watching the sunset, listening to the sound of a long tail boat churning up the river. Time seems to stop and you realise, all that happens in the world, all of the things that annoy you or make you unhappy, don’t seem to matter. For what it’s worth, I think it’s important to hold onto these moments, because when you look back they may well lift us out of the trivial mess we get caught up in. So last night, me and a couple of mates ventured up to the Odyssey cinema, Belfast. Moneyball; a film about Billy Beane, GM of Oakland A’s baseball team, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. Just to fill you in, I’m a huge American sports fan, but my baseball knowledge isn’t great. This meant I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to follow the story or not, luckily it didn’t really matter. Stats, that is baseball to me, stats on everything. Moneyball for me cast a little light on the stats, the concept of averages and how a team can be built up with ‘enough wins’ through averages. The A’s are a low budget baseball team, the lowest of the low when wages are compared. Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) is a young graduate out of Yale, who has designed a program that could ‘technically’ computer-generate a winning team, without using baseball knowledge or scouts. It’s a romantic, slow moving film about baseball; pretty perfect echo to what baseball really is. The GM position Brad Pitt plays isn’t glamorised, its not over the top. Tonight I went to the movies, again. I watched the new movie IMMORTALS (that’s how I would assume it would be read, bold) anyway, good show, much as I expected, kind of like 300, not a illustrated or graphic novelised but gladiatoresque. I did like how they portrayed the gods, ie Zeus and his crew. To get the review over and get onto my main point….6.9 out of 10. Okay, so halfway through the movie, I took off my glasses to see a message (yes I know, very annoying) anyway, I watched a bitta 3d action with no glasses, the result being that it was utter drunkenness. Unsurprisingly I guess, in fact I would use the word obviously. It looked as if you were drunk watching a fight outside a nightclub, everyone vaguely buff and a beautiful girl, blurry yet stunning. Only if it was real life drunkenness then she would look stunning and yet proberably be a heffer. Moral of the story don’t get drunk and watch movies, just go watch 3d without the glasses. Ps, why is the virgin oracle ALWAYS a hottie?! G
