Hoi An, Vietnam…

So….I’ve recently been offered to work with a new start up online travel magazine. It’s a pretty exciting opportunity because it’s talking about something I actually enjoy, to explore, to find something new, an experience unique from anyone else…to escape the monotony of a daily grind, whilst trying to find a memory or place that remains paradise… physically and mentally. “travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer”. After reading this on a good friends facebook I realised it’s so easy to get caught up with earning money and impressing the people next to you, we sometimes forget about the places around us. They blur into bland wallpaper and we lose sight of beauty. Travelling is the one thing that somewhat untangles that financial struggle, it changes the boring wallpaper. I sometimes find it hard to part with my money, but to spend a few 100 quid on going somewhere completely foreign, experiencing a different culture…well that lasts a life time, unlike the £40 t shirt that survives 4-5 cycles in a washing machine.So, the editor contacted me from Escapist Traveller, I had to complete a brief on somewhere I visited that stood out, that meant […]

Pete Doherty

Hard to approach this subject, considering I don’t really know where I stand on “Pete Doherty” Anyway, I guess the best way to write this blog is by talking about his artwork. I went along to the Cob gallery in Camden and viewed some of Petes work. I met his manager and asked a few questions…. at first it kind of a strange room to walk into, cluttered with records, cameras and collectables spilling on the floor. Massive flags hanging from the celling and a whole load of other crap that any mental collector would be proud off. Pete Doherty is nuts. There’s no shock in that, no surprise that when you paint in your own blood someone isn’t going to say you have a few screws loose. Pete Doherty is talented, his work is influential, it has character, it also appears, to me anyway to be someone trying to express themselves. It’s like his work explains his mood… I guess the most controversial part of the work is obviously the bit he did’t even do. The bit he influenced someone else to create. Bruce Lee

So recently I watched Kill Bill with my house mates. Got me thinking about how sweet it would be to be Bruce Lee. “Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own.” He was undoubtedly a legend, one of the most recognisable names in Hollywood. I’m not sure you should be friends with someone who doesn’t know the name Bruce Lee. To this day he remains the greatest icon of martial arts cinema, and a key figure of modern day popular culture. His trade mark animal noises and acrobatic defence defined the age of cinema and possibly even created the martial art movie genre. Not too long ago I also happened to come across a movie called ‘Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story’ a movie that somewhat describes the life of Bruce Lee. Jason Scott Lee, who plays Lee ironically isn’t any relation… unfortunately.I dunno what it is about Bruce Lee, but as soon as you watch a few interviews, you start to realise this guy was so different. My own treehut.

So I was thinking today whilst sitting on the tube, why do most Christians stick with Christians. Obviously it’s a good thing, support and help in something that matters. To walk hand in hand along a path of righteousness. Makes sense, of course it’s important. I was thinking however, sometimes maybe we do it too much, we depend on other Christians to much and the environment that comes with it. My thoughts resulted in this…do you ever remember when you were a kid, and built something great, say a treehouse? I built a few great tree houses in my day. Come to think about it, I wish it was still acceptable for a 24 year old man to build a treehouse! Anyway, on various occasions the bigger and badder boys would find my sweet hut and invade it, normally at first peacefully, checking out the surroundings and if they liked it would make it their own! Eventually my treehut wouldn’t be mine, in fact most of the time, the big boys would use it for drinking and drugs and I wouldn’t be aloud anywhere near it :(. Beloved Arsenal

So it’s saturday again, my third weekend in London…I live about 40 mins from the Emirates stadium. The gooners home, the 470 million greyhounds worth of metal, bricks and carpet like playing surface. Unfortunately its not brought us the most luck over the past 7 years but its does look very swanky…and I guess at the minute that is exactly what we represent on the pitch, swanky. Sunderland today in the cup, must win…actually theres not much point in saying that it’s so obvious its a ‘must win’. If the same situation happens as last year and we go out of a bunch of cups in quick succession, then the fan’s may actually burst onto the pitch and cut the ineligible Nicky Bendtner into a million pieces and scatter him throughout the north east…due to frustration. I’m pro Wenger, completely, he’s without a doubt a genius but this is such a big game against a smaller team that he has to win. The FA Cup needs to be a priority, barring a miracle on the 5th of march against AC milan in the Champions League then this is a brilliant opportunity in front of us. the sweetest rose

What is love, why can’t we see it? why in real life does it so often fail? why is love not enough? How do you know love? Does love care?Is it wrong to use the word ‘love’ so freely, maybe that freedom is what condemns love to fail. I’m not sure how to sum up love in a humanly way, I don’t expect to or even try. I don’t even know how to make sense of anything that surrounds love so I wont begin too. I do know however, the word love and the people who use it, can become lost and can cloud ‘love’ beyond recognition. I watched a film tonight, Blue Valentine with Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. To sum it up, love doesn’t prevail, it isn’t enough and life isn’t always fair. Im not going to blog about the film to much, it’s a good show and you should watch it for yourself! Rather, I want to blog about ‘love’, because that’s the movie, it’s about how we perceive something we feel at a certain time in our lives. The bridge on the river Kwai

“One day the war will be over. And I hope that the people that use this bridge in years to come will remember how it was built and who built it. Not a gang of slaves, but soldiers, British soldiers, Clipton, even in captivity.” Last year I was venturing around asia when I stumbled across a beautiful village called Kanchanaburi. The jolly frog was my humble abode, £2 a night did’t seem fair for such a perfect location. Sitting on a floating deck, watching the sunset, listening to the sound of a long tail boat churning up the river. Time seems to stop and you realise, all that happens in the world, all of the things that annoy you or make you unhappy, don’t seem to matter. For what it’s worth, I think it’s important to hold onto these moments, because when you look back they may well lift us out of the trivial mess we get caught up in. Kanchanaburi has claims to a movie that was on today, “the bridge on the river Kwai”. I was taken back by how much of a ‘movie’ it was.
